Heart Full of Dust

The artist collective Het Harde Potlood (consisting of Richtje Reinsma, Roosmarijn Schoonewelle and Heleen Wiemer) is inspired by domestic work. The artists look with wonder at the ritual power and possession involved in cleaning, maintaining and stylizing bodies and homes. They give shape to this in a playful and whimsical world of paper and textile installations, drawings, costumes and videos. Het Harde Potlood follows the epic struggle against disorder, dirt and decay – both mental and physical – and the brief moments of purity and order before the dust settles again.

About Het Harde Potlood
Het Harde Potlood is a collaboration between artists Richtje Reinsma (Amsterdam, 1979), Roosmarijn Schoonewelle (Hoorn, 1980) and Heleen Wiemer (Ten Boer, 1978). Since 2006 they have been working together irregularly on an experimental body of work that includes installations and performances, and has drawing as its foundation and fixture. Their practice is polyphonic, playful and symbiotic.

A recurring theme is control over matter that has its own will. In the past, for example, they have allowed a paper garden to advance, and attempted to dress objects with a whip. In 2019, they embarked on a long-term artistic investigation of the household, titled As The Dust Returns. They then decided to stop thinking of their daily (family) lives as obstacles and instead take them as their starting point, drawing inspiration from ever-recurring tasks such as cleaning, tidying, repairing and grooming. They see their collective work as something between a dung heap, compost heap, ruin and reincarnating organism.
